What is Yiddish dance? Come to the dance floor, where we'll learn some of the most popular folk dance forms that developed in tandem with klezmer music, including bulgar, freylekhs, husidl and zhok. There are no complicated steps to worry about; anyone can bring Yiddish dance to life. We'll also explore traditional movement vocabulary to help you develop your own improvisatory style. Inspired by live music, we'll experience the give and take between dancers and musicians in real time, seeing how the music affects how we want to dance, and how our dancing influences the musicians. Comfortable clothing and shoes recommended.
