Speaking as a Jewish 24 year-old turned professional Jew, I've found the single most important dilemma affecting the current generation of Jews is how they decide just how Jewish they want to be. For most of us, the debate isn't, "Should I be Christian or Jewish?" or "Buddhist or Jewish?" No. The real quandary affecting and preoccupying many young Jewish adults today is this: Should I be a modern, progressive, secular, non-denominationally affiliated Citizen of the World or should I be deeply and connectedly Jewish-and how much of each-or where in-between do I find myself? Is it possible to reconcile these ideas and if so, how? Put in an even more concise fashion, "Why on earth be a Jew in the post-modern world?"
